National Recognition for a Journey We're Still On

When we first opened the doors at Two Rivers, we didn't set out to win awards.

Our goal was much simpler: create the kind of place we would choose to stay ourselves.  Somewhere peaceful, beautifully presented, genuinely welcoming, and deeply connected to the landscape that surrounds us.

Every decision we've made since then has been guided by that philosophy.

From restoring the gardens and investing in sustainable practices, to carefully designing each guest suite and sharing our favourite parts of the Ruapehu region with visitors, we've always believed that the little things matter.

That's why we're incredibly honoured to have been named the 2026 Rising Star Bed & Breakfast of the Year by the Bed & Breakfast Association of New Zealand.

B&B Association NZ - Rising Star Bed and Breakfast of the Year Certificate

The award recognises exceptional Bed & Breakfasts that have been operating for less than two years, making it particularly meaningful for us.  It acknowledges not just the accommodation itself, but the guest experience, hospitality, presentation and commitment that go into creating somewhere truly memorable.

Receiving national recognition so early in our journey is both humbling and encouraging.

The award was recently featured by the Whanganui Chronicle on the NZ Herald website, highlighting how Two Rivers has evolved since we began this adventure and the passion behind what we're building.  Independent recognition like this means a great deal because it reflects the experiences our guests have shared with others and the standards recognised by our industry.

Of course, awards don't happen in isolation.

Every guest who has stayed with us, left a review, shared a recommendation, or simply trusted us with their holiday has played a part in this achievement.  Whether you've travelled from just down the road or from the other side of the world, you've helped shape the story of Two Rivers.

We're also grateful to the local businesses, guides, cafés, restaurants and tourism operators around Ohakune who make this region such a special destination.  One of the greatest pleasures of hosting is introducing guests to experiences they may never have discovered otherwise.

Earlier this year we were also awarded Qualmark Gold, recognising our commitment to quality and sustainable tourism.  Together, these achievements reinforce something we've believed from the beginning: luxury doesn't have to be extravagant.  It should be authentic, thoughtful and respectful of both people and place.  Additionally, we achieved Quality Assured status from the Bed and Breakfast Association New Zealand, which upholds the highest of hosting standards.

While we're proud of this recognition, we also know it isn't a finish line.

It's simply encouragement to keep improving.

We have exciting plans for the future, from enhancing the guest experience to continuing our sustainability journey and finding new ways to help visitors connect with the rivers, forests and mountains that make this part of New Zealand so special.

To everyone who has stayed with us, supported us, or recommended Two Rivers Ohakune to family and friends, thank you.

This award belongs to all of you as much as it does to us.

We look forward to welcoming many more guests and continuing the journey together.

On top of our own award, it was fantastic to see our friends, Mary and Tim, at The Olive Rabbit win the exceptional B&B of the year award, meaning both winners are close to Mt Ruapehu.

As an award-winning boutique accommodation in Ohakune, we'll continue investing in exceptional guest experiences while staying true to the values that brought us here.
