Your hosts
Scott and Ula Tansley welcome you to Two Rivers, bringing warmth, care, and a sense of connection to every guest experience. Their goal is simple: to offer a place of privacy, serenity, and eco-luxury where every guest can rest, reconnect, and create their own memories of Ruapehu. Our story began in Europe, where we are from originally, and includes thirteen years of living near Wellington, but regularly visiting Ruapehu.
They are passionate about Ohakune, its mountains, rivers, and people, and are always ready to share insider tips, introduce you to local businesses, or simply make sure you feel at home.
“If you have any special requests, please let us know. We’re here to make your stay as comfortable as possible.”
Scott and Ula
A short history
Number 44 Burns Street is a traditional timber home built around 1910, set on generous grounds in a semi-rural location. From the gardens, you’ll hear the Mangawhero and Mangateitei rivers flowing past, with Mt Ruapehu rising in the distance. For over a century, this residence has been a cherished family home. Since 2010, it has undergone continuous restoration and expansion, always with care to preserve its original charm and elegance.
Inspired by the rivers and mountain views, in 2018, Two Rivers Ohakune opened its doors to guests, blending heritage character with modern luxury. Scott and Ula purchased Two Rivers in 2024, and our story is one of pushing to constantly improve the experience that we offer.
A sustainable stay
Two Rivers holds a Qualmark Gold Award for sustainability, reflecting a commitment to care for people and place. From thoughtful design and careful waste reduction to working with local suppliers, Scott and Ula ensure your stay leaves a light footprint while still delivering comfort at the highest standard. Solar panels, battery storage and (solar) EV charging was introduced in 2026.
Offering excellence during every stay...
We’re committed to achieving the highest standards of sustainability and operational practice. In March 2026, we were proud to receive Qualmark Gold, recognising our care for the environment, our team, and the way we run our business. Only a small number of operators near the Tongariro National Park hold this distinction. Our focus is upon delivering eco-luxury to our guests.
Since purchasing Two Rivers in July 2024, Scott and Ula have introduced a wide range of eco‑focused initiatives — from solar power and EV charging to riverbank restoration. Many thoughtful, small changes continue to strengthen our commitment to the Tiaki Promise. We invite you to travel responsibly and care for Aotearoa New Zealand.
