About Two Rivers Ohakune
Luxury Accommodation
A short history
44 Burns Street is a stunning traditional home built around 1910. It sits on generous grounds in a picturesque semi-rural location. The house offers breath taking views of Mt Ruapehu and the enchanting sounds of the Mangawhero and Mangateitei rivers which flow right past the gardens.

For over a century, this residence has been a beloved family home, and since 2010, it has undergone continuous heartfelt restoration and expansion, all while maintaining its original charm and elegance.

Creating Luxury Accommodation
Chris and Mairi purchased the home in 2011 with plans for sympathetic renovations to create a modern family residence while preserving its original character.
Inspired by the stunning rivers and mountain views, they collaborated with consultants to develop a boutique bed and breakfast offering luxury accommodation. Two Rivers Ohakune was born. Opened in 2018, it originally featured two cosy rooms with a shared spa pool. It is ideal for short stays in the Ruapehu region. Both rooms boast unobstructed mountain views and a relaxing atmosphere.

The entrance to all rooms is separate to the main house. This offers independence and privacy during your stay.

Two Rivers was immediately embraced by domestic and international travellers alike. Positive reviews on Booking.com and TripAdvisor gave them confidence to go up a gear and they invested in the Rua Awa suite in 2019. A standalone cabin, away from the house and other guest suites, this room offers increased privacy and a spa pool in a covered, discrete location.

This room has become favoured by returning guests and offers that extra special experience. If luxury accommodation in Ruapehu is something you are looking for, then this may be appropriate.

The Rua Awa suite, stands apart from the house and other suites. Looking down into the gardens and rivers, this room is constantly being enhanced to deliver the highest levels of comfort.
Changing times at Two Rivers
Having built something truly exceptional, the previous owners wanted to start their next adventure. Two Rivers Ohakune was sold in July 2024, and Scott and Ula took over the ownership of the home and business.

Your hosts at Two Rivers, Ula and Scott Tansley - we look forward to welcoming you.
Ula and Scott were ready for a change after seeing their son start university. They had fallen in love with Ohakune and the Ruapehu area. The allure of Mt Ruapehu, coupled with access to skiing, biking, and walking, was irresistible. They had already built a supportive community before arriving, which made the transition to rural life smooth.

During their first year they listened to guest feedback, found the common threads and prioritised areas to improve. They pushed hard and Two Rivers has gone from strength to strength. The foundation laid by Chris and Mairi was impressive, but the desire to offer something even more special has driven them forward. The improvements have been recognised by a four star plus award from Qualmark.

The original two rooms have been fully refurbished with new paint, new soft furnishing along with beds and mattresses. Rua Awa has also been massively improved, and there are imminent plans for more. Other improvements are less visible and includes changes to IT and booking systems. We've also started working with world-class travel agencies that will tailor the perfect holiday package for our international guests.

We are committed to being the best that we can be, and we invite you to come and experience the luxury, privacy and serenity of Two Rivers for yourselves. Feel free to email us if you want to know more.
